Multi-faceted media company Gamma, led by former Apple executive Larry Jackson, recently announced its acquisition of Vydia for $1 billion. Vydia is a portfolio company of venture capital fund Zagadat Capital, founded in 2021 by Nigerian musician and entrepreneur Oluwatosin Ajibade, better known as Mr Eazi.
Vydia is known for its work with famous artists like Akon, Kanye West, Mr Eazi, and Anuel. Gamma, whose investors include Apple, Eldridge Industries, and A24, plans to leverage Vydia's top-notch content distribution and analytics software to connect creators with fans on all formats and channels. Larry Jackson emphasized that Gamma is an ideas company that offers transparency and no restrictions, giving creators the flexibility and aptitude they need to connect with their audience.
Zagadat Capital, launched by Mr Eazi last year, has invested in various tech companies like Eden Life, Pawapay, and most recently, the South African basketball team CapeTown Tigers. Mr Eazi's earlier investments went into music tech companies like his own emPawa, ticketing platform SHOOBS, and American music distribution platform Vydia, whose services emPawa used before making financial investments in the platform.
Overall, Gamma's acquisition of Vydia marks a significant milestone for both companies, paving the way for more innovation and growth in the media and tech industries.
