WWE Raw results, recap, grades: New world title announced

WWE's Monday Night Raw saw a major announcement from Triple H that has shaken up the wrestling world. The WWE executive announced the return of the World Heavyweight Championship, which is the company's version of the old WCW heavyweight championship. This announcement comes as Roman Reigns, the current Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, has been criticized for his nearly 1,000-day title reign resulting in fewer appearances from the top champion than at any time in modern history.

Triple H addressed this issue by taking some shots at Reigns for being an absent champion and announcing that the first champion of the new version of the title will be crowned at Night of Champions on May 27 in Saudi Arabia. The WWE Universe can look forward to a new champion who can be respected and admired and who will defend the title anywhere, any place, any time all over the world.

It's an interesting move by WWE to unify two world titles and then announce a new world title. It's also odd that Reigns is undisputed WWE Universal Champion when, by definition, another world championship creates a "dispute." Nonetheless, WWE's intention to have titles on both the Raw and SmackDown brands is understandable, and a more active champion is always a good thing.

In other news, popular musician Bad Bunny and Damian Priest are set to face off in a street fight at Backlash. Bunny has proven he can be a part of an entertaining match, and the foundation was laid weeks in advance for this highly anticipated bout. While it requires a significant suspension of disbelief to believe that Bad Bunny can match up well against Damian Priest in a street fight, the history of celebrities in professional wrestling matches proves that anything can happen.

The Raw episode also saw other exciting matchups, including The Bloodline defeating The LWO, The Street Profits beating Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin, and Bianca Belair, Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez defeating Damage CTRL. Cody Rhodes won against Finn Balor, and Mustafa Ali emerged victorious against Chad Gable.
